Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the PetCare app collects, why, where it goes and what you can do about it. PetCare is published by HAOTONG TECHNOLOGY (HK) CO., LIMITED ("we", "us"). If you have a question, contact us via mail@proapp.uk.
1. Data that stays on your device
Your pets' profiles, health diary, care tasks and reminders, weights, walks (including GPS routes), photos, scanned documents and notes are stored only on your phone. In this version of the app they are not synced or backed up to our servers. If you delete the app or your account, this data is removed from the device; we cannot restore it.
Some features use your device's own capabilities, only after you allow them:
- Location records walk routes and finds local weather and nearby places. Routes stay on the device; a "home privacy zone" hides the area around your home on route cards you choose to share.
- Camera and photos take pet photos and scan vaccination cards and vet documents. Text is recognised on the device.
- Microphone and speech recognition turn dictated notes into text using your phone's speech service (Apple or Google), which may process audio under its own privacy terms.
- Calendar adds care tasks to your calendar if you turn on calendar sync.
2. Data our server stores
- Account. Your email address, and if you sign in with Apple or Google, the stable user identifier that provider gives us for you. With Sign in with Apple we also keep a token that lets us revoke the app's access at Apple when you delete your account. With Apple you can choose to share a private relay address instead of your real email. Email sign-in uses one-time codes; codes are stored only as hashes and deleted within a day.
- Devices. Platform (iOS or Android) and app version recorded at each sign-in.
- AI assistant conversations. See section 3. We keep the full request and reply of each assistant call, linked to your account, for 90 days, then delete them automatically. We use them to operate the service, investigate problems, prevent abuse and improve answers.
- Usage counters. How many assistant messages and tokens you used per day, to enforce fair-use limits.
- Product analytics. When analytics is on, the app sends a small fixed set of events (for example "app opened", "screen viewed", "walk finished" with its duration and distance, "assistant message sent") together with app version, operating system and version, device model, a random installation identifier and your IP address. Events never contain chat text, pet names, health notes, locations or other free text. They are processed in our own self-hosted analytics system (OpenPanel); the IP address is also used to estimate your approximate location (country or city). We use this to understand which features are used and where the app breaks.
- HTTP and error logs. For every request to our server we record the time, the route, the result, timings, platform, app version, your account identifier and your IP address. Errors are logged with technical details, including crash and error reports the app sends automatically (these contain technical details such as the error message and stack trace, not your pet records or chat text). Detailed request and error records are kept for 30 days; after that only anonymous daily totals remain. Our server process logs, which can include the same technical details, are kept for a limited time for troubleshooting and security.
The app has no public profiles and no messaging between users in this version. The read-only feed of articles is the same for everyone; its pictures may load from third-party image hosts such as Unsplash, which see your IP address.
3. The AI assistant
The assistant only works after you agree to AI features in the app. When you use it, the app sends your message, recent chat history and things the assistant remembers from earlier chats to our server, which forwards them to a third-party AI model. If "Share pet data with AI" is on, the request also includes your active pet's profile (name, species, breed, age, weight), recent health diary entries, check-ins and upcoming care tasks. Photos you attach stay on your phone and are not sent.
Replies come from AI models run by third parties and reached through OpenRouter, a routing service. We use free models; the providers of free models may log and use prompts, including to train their models, under their own terms. Please do not share sensitive personal information about yourself or other people (such as health, financial or identity details) in the chat. You can turn off pet data sharing or AI features in Settings at any time.
4. Other services the app uses
- Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In, if you choose them. They share your email (or Apple relay address) and a user identifier with us.
- Open-Meteo provides weather. The app sends it your approximate coordinates directly.
- OpenStreetMap data through the Overpass API provides nearby places such as vets, dog parks and drinking water. The app sends the area around you.
- Maps are shown with Apple Maps on iOS and Google Maps on Android, which load map tiles from Apple or Google.
- OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to, as described in section 3.
- Email delivery providers send your sign-in codes.
- Cloud hosting. Our servers and database run on rented infrastructure.
These services receive your IP address as part of any internet request and handle data under their own privacy policies.
5. Why we process data
To provide the app and your account (performing our contract with you), to run the AI assistant you ask for (your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings), and to keep the service secure, reliable and improving through logs and analytics (our legitimate interests). We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
6. Deleting your data
You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account and data). This immediately and permanently deletes from our database your account, email and sign-in identifiers, devices, assistant conversation logs, usage counters, your HTTP and error log records, and any assistant connections, and it revokes Sign in with Apple access at Apple. Your analytics events are queued for erasure from our analytics system. The data on your phone is wiped by the app. Copies in our database backups disappear as the backups rotate (at most 8 weeks). Anonymous daily totals that cannot identify you are kept.
Signing out does not delete anything. If you cannot use the app, contact us via mail@proapp.uk and we will delete your account for you.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Contact us via mail@proapp.uk; we may need to confirm that the account is yours.
8. International transfers
We are based in Hong Kong. Our servers are currently located in the European Union (the Netherlands), and the services listed above, including AI model providers, may process data in other countries, such as the United States. By using the app you understand that your data may be processed outside your country, where data protection laws may differ. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Security
Connections to our server are encrypted (HTTPS), sign-in codes are hashed, and access to our servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
PetCare is not intended for children under 13, and children under 13 may not use it. We do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it. In countries where a higher age is required to consent to data processing, users below that age need a parent's permission.
11. Changes
We will update this policy when the app changes, and change the date above. For significant changes we will tell you in the app.
